Special Needs Education
CAPCS'
Special Education Department is committed to providing students who are experiencing academic and emotional deficits with specialized instruction and related services such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, and psychological
counseling. We have the philosophy that all students can achieve excellence and become productive citizens when given the opportunity to be educated in a favorable environment. We are committed to our partnerships with parents and general educators. For more information on Special Education services, please click here.
Student Support Services
CAPCS'
Student Support Team (SST), consisting of guidance counselors, general education teachers, administrators, other support staff, and parents, provides assistance to teachers as they work with students who are struggling academically and/or
behaviorally. When a teacher refers a student to the SST, team members use a collaborative data-driven process to discuss the student's needs and identify academic and behavioral interventions that the teacher may implement to help
the student reach their potential. SST members monitor and evaluate to determine the effectiveness of the intervention. For more information on our Student Support services, please click here.
LCD/ESOL Program
CAPCS' LCD/ESOL department
bridges cultures to forge mutual understanding and acceptance, ensure equal access to the curriculum, and promote strong English language development and academic success for our students. To visit the LCD/ESOL webpage, please click here.
Reading Intervention
CAPCS
participates in the Reading First Initiative which implements scientifically based reading research instructional practices on why children fail and, most importantly, what to do about it. The goal is to have all students reading at
or above grade level by 3rd grade. CAPCS uses the Voyager Expanded Learning intervention program to help increase reading skills and strategies among those struggling students who have tested below basic in reading. For more
about our literacy efforts, please click here.
Service-Learning & Community Involvement
CAPCS uses service-learning as a teaching and learning strategy to integrate community service with instruction and reflection to supplement the learning experience, teach civic
responsibility, and strengthen the bond within communities. All students are required to perform a predetermined amount of community service each school year. For more information about our service-learning program and community
events, please click here.
Early Childhood Education
Our
Early Childhood Program serves 3-, 4-, and 5-year old children in preschool, pre-kindergarten, and kindergarten. A teacher and a teacher's assistant who are trained in early childhood development and experienced in working with young
children serve each class. Our goal is to bring out and develop each child's talents and skills, to encourage independence and decision-making skills, and to lay a solid foundation for their school years. We guide children as
they become more social through interaction with their peers, helping them to master skills such as cooperation, sharing, taking turns, and conflict resolution. We believe a quality child development program is tailored toward skills
and activities that are appropriate to the child's age and stage of development, and allows children more individual choice in how to use their time. This carries over in everything from the way the classroom is set up to the books
and toys used by the children to the enrichment activities we plan. Most attention is given to literacy, mathematical reasoning, scientific reasoning, and the arts. For more information about our Early Childhood Education
program, please click here.
Global Education
Global Education
strives to help students appreciate our similarities while respecting our differences with people all over the world. Global Education approaches the teaching of this all-encompassing perspective through thematic teaching that
highlights what people have in common. CAPCS is committed to the idea that people with global perspectives are better poised to work with each other toward world peace and prosperity for everyone. To find out more about this
program at our Butler campus, please click here.
Technology in Education
Increasing
student achievement through the full integration of technology as a tool for learning is a primary goal for CAPCS. In our efforts to move toward state-of-the-art technology, we will be installing Smart Boards in every
classroom. For more on our Educational Technology Plan click here.
Summer School Program
CAPCS Summer
School program is designed to support students who have not been completely successful in the academic program, including mastering the Standards of Learning objectives during the regular school year. We offer summer school in July
for all grades.
Kids House
Kids House is a fee-based
before- and after-school program that serves as an extension of the school day. Children can unwind in a structured environment where they engage in activities that encourage creativity and expression. The Kids Kit curriculum
offers hands-on, age-specific lessons that are fun and support classroom learning. Homework time and tutoring promote academic success. Kids House is a safe, caring, and happy place for those critical before- and after-school
hours. For more information about Kids House, please visit the Kids House page.
Parent Center
As part of our effort
to support the community and increase parental involvement, CAPCS has a Parent Center that offers parent education, counseling, and support for families in our community through indirect services that include information and referrals on
issues such as health, housing, child development, workforce training, and community involvement. To contact the Parent Center or find out how we might be able to support you, please visit the Parent Center page.
