The Special Education Department is committed to providing students who are experiencing academic and emotional deficits with specialized instruction and related services such as psychological counseling, speech, occupational, and physical therapy. We have a philosophy that ALL students can achieve academic excellence and become productive citizens when given the opportunity to be educated in conducive environments. We are committed to our partnerships with parents, general educators, as well as ELL educators.

Students are referred for special education services through the Student Support Team (SST). After students have forgone the SST process, which entails classroom-based interventions for a period of six weeks, they may be referred to the Special Education Coordinator if sufficient progress has not been observed or obtained.

CAPCS' special education program offers resource classroom and inclusion. Special Education students are put in either or both environments depending on what is identified in their Individual Education Plan (IEP). We have on-site school psychologists, social workers, counselors, and other support staff. Our students use the same curriculum as their non-disabled peers, but often in a modified or different way.
