According to one of the best known authors in this area, Dr. Kenneth Tye, global education can be defined as . . .

. . . learning about those problems and issues which cut across national boundaries and about the interconnectedness of systems-cultural, ecological, economic, political and technological. Global education also involves learning to understand and appreciate our neighbors with different cultural backgrounds from ours; to see the world through the eyes and minds of others and to realize that other people of the world need and want much of the same things.

This definition can be summarized in one sentence: Appreciating our similarities and respecting our differences with people all over the world makes the world a better place. Global education approaches the teaching of this all-encompassing perspective through thematic teaching that highlights what people have in common e.g., we each have a culture (culture as a system), we share one earth (ecological system), we all need resources (economic systems),we have leaders (political systems) and we all use technology in one form or another (technological systems).

It is our conviction that people with global perspectives are better poised to work with each other toward world peace and prosperity for everyone. The future belongs to our children. Let's help them become global student ambassadors who will lead the way to a better and brighter future.

What is "global education" and why is it important for your children?
