ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Parent Center, located at the Amos Elementary campus (1300 Allison St. NW), is currently open to assist the parents of all CAPCS students. The Parent Center Director, Marcia K. Brown, envisions the center as a place where families will have access to resources on an array of issues such as literacy, finances, employment, technology, health, education, and any other area of interest to our CAPCS families. The Parent Center will soon begin training seminars and other activities that are designed to meet the needs of our families. If you have questions or comments, please contact Mrs. Brown at (202) 723-4100, ext. 2240 or email parentcenter@capcs.org.
 

 HAND-DANCING CLASSES
CAPCS Parent Center, in conjunction with One Step At A Tyme will offer Beginner and Intermediate Hand Dancing Classes for parents.  The certified dance instructors will offer you an opportunity to learn to dance and become a star on the dance floor!

CLASS BEGINS:  Wed., October 1st     CLASS ENDS Wed., November 19th
TIME:  6:00-7:00 PM (BEG.)/ 7:00-8:00 PM (INTERMEDIATE)      DAY:  WEDNESDAY    DURATION: 8 Weeks

  1. Classes will be held in Kids’ House at Amos 1 Campus.
  2. Please wear dance or hard bottom shoes.  No tennis shoes, please.
  3. Child care will be provided.

                     ADULT BOOK CLUB
The adult book club participants can pick up a copy of the first book club selection from October 6th-October 10th.  If you would like to have a book delivered to another campus, please contact Ms. Brown in the Parent Center or your office manager.

  1. The books are free, but you must register as space is limited.
  2. Book club chats will be held every third Tuesday beginning November 18th
  3. Discussions are scheduled to be held in the reading room at Amos 2 Campus but can be held at each campus, providing ample participation.
  4. Refreshments and child care will be provided.

                  PARENT-CHILD CROCHET CLUB
The Parent-Child Crochet Club is for parents and children of all ages and abilities.  All levels are encouraged to share their expertise.  The club will meet twice per month (on Thurdays) beginning October 2nd  1 at 5:30 pm Amos 1 Campus.

  1. All supplies will be provided, but you must register as space is limited.

           PARENTING CLASSES
CAPCS Parent Center, in conjunction with The Georgia Avenue/Rock Creek East Family Support Collaborative, will address tough issues with parenting through a dynamic set of parenting classes.

ANGER MANAGEMENT
CAPCS Parent Center in conjunction with The Anacostia Center for Psychotherapy and Counseling, Inc. will help parents deal with anger management.  The Group Facilitator will address the emotion of anger from a clinically holistic perspective; identify origins of anger; guide toward effective management of emotions.

CAPCS Parent Center, in conjunction with Student Support Center, will offer parenting classes as a supplement to Second Step Violence Prevention Program being taught in the schools.

                         PHYSICAL FITNESS CLASS
The aerobics class will be an introduction to the basic fitness class formats. There will be a boot camp segment, an abs and lower back segment, and an alternating yoga and leg works segment every other class. Through these formats, each participant will increase their cardio stamina, core and leg strength, and flexibility.

TIME:  6:00-7:00 PM           DAY:  TUE. & THUR.          DURATION: 6 Weeks

  1. Classes will be held at Rand Campus (1st  semester; Amos 1 2nd semester)

      ENTREPRENEURIAL OPPORTUNITIES
Parents will be given an opportunity to learn about entrepreneurial opportunities through engaging hands-on sessions hosted by other entrepreneurs.
