Title I
The number of low-income students
at CAPCS is above 40%, making Community Academy Public Charter School a Title I school. CAPCS uses Title I funds to create school-wide programs to improve achievement for all students in the school. For more information about

Longer School Day & Year
CAPCS
offers a longer school day and a longer school year in order to give students more engaged learning time and to ensure that students do not retrograde over a long summer break.
Saturday Academy
Saturday Academy
is an additional school day six times each year offering remedial help to students not performing up to grade level, enrichment activities for high-achieving students, and professional development activities for teachers. Students
identified in need of assistance and all teachers are required to particpate in Saturday Academy.
Uniformed School
Children
function and develep best in a stable and structured environment where there are clear expectations and consequences. Students, teachers, and staff are required to appear each day on time and in uniform (attire with CAPCS

Kids House
Kids House is a fee-based
before- and after-school program that serves as an extension of the school day. Children can unwind in a structured environment where they engage in activities that encourage creativity and expression. The Kids Kit curriculum
offers hands-on, age-specific lessons that are fun and support classroom learning. Homework time and tutoring promote academic success. Kids House is a safe, caring, and happy place for those critical before- and after-school

Summer School
CAPCS Summer School
program is designed to support students who have not been completely successful in the academic program, including mastering the Standards of Learning objectives during the regular school year. We offer summer school in July for all
grades.
Parent Center
As part of our effort
to support the community and increase parental involvement, CAPCS has a Parent Center that offers parent education, counseling, and support for families in our community through indirect services that include information and referrals on
issues such as health, housing, child development, workforce training, and community involvement. For more information about the Parent Center or to get involved click here.
Core Knowledge Curriculum
Developed
through research examining national and local core curricula and through consultation with education professionals in each subject area, the Core Knowledge Sequence provides a model of specific content guidelines for students in the
preschool, elementary, and middle school grades. It offers a progression of detailed grade-by-grade topics in language arts, mathematics, science, history, geography, music, and fine arts, so that students building on knowledge from
pre-kindergarten through grade eight. Instructional strategies are modeled for teachers, but the selection of strategies is left to the discretion of teachers. You can find more information about the Core Knowledge Curriculum at

Responsive Classroom
The Responsive Classroom is an approach to teaching and learning that fosters safe, challenging, and joyful elementary classrooms and schools. It consists of practical strategies for bringing together social and academic learning throughout the school day. Reading Intervention
CAPCS
participates in the Reading First Initiative which implements scientifically-based reading research instructional practices on why children fail and, most importantly, what to do about it. The goal is to have all students reading at
or above grade level by 3rd grade. CAPCS uses the Voyager Expanded Learning intervention program to help increase reading skills and strategies among those struggling students who have tested below basic in reading. For more

Technology in Education
Increasing
student achievement through the full integration of technology as a tool for learning is a primary goal for CAPCS. In our efforts to move toward state-of-the-art technology, we will be installing Smart Boards in every

Global Education
Global Education
strives to help students appreciate our similarities while respecting our differences with people all over the world. Global Education approaches the teaching of this all-encompassing perspective through thematic teaching that
