School Closings & Delays
When the weather is bad, Community Academy Public Charter School follows a set of guidelines for deciding if school will be open or closed. CAPCS must make one decision that is the best for all of the students. This decision may not fit with your individual circumstances; therefore, we encourage and strongly support you in making the decision that is best for your child. You are always the best judge of your child's health and safety.

How You Can Find Out if Schools Are Closed
On days when the weather is bad, please tune in to your local television stations (FOX, NBC, or CBS) for information regarding school closings. CAPCS does not follow the DCPS closing schedule; please look for "Community Academy Public Charter School," specifically, when looking for school closings or delays.

When schools are closed for the day, the following will apply:
   - Extracurricular activities, interscholastic contests, team practices, field trips, and recreation programs in schools
    and on school grounds are canceled.
   - Kids House is closed.

When schools are opened two hours late, the following will apply:
   - Offices will open on time.
   - Morning field trips are canceled.
   - Kids House will be closed for the morning, but open for the afternoon

When schools are closed two hours early owing to worsening weather conditions during the day, the following will apply:
   - The announcement will be made as early as possible
   - Kids House will be open until 6:15pm
   - Extracurricular activities, interscholastic contests, team practices, field trips, and recreation progrmas in schools
    and on school grounds are canceled.

HOW DO I GET DETAILED INFORMATION ON CURRENT LOCAL WEATHER CONDITIONS?
The best source of local weather information is a weather radio. Regional information is available from radio and television broadcasts. Current weather informaiton is also available from WeatherNet4 (www.nbc4.com), the National Weather Service (www.nws.noaa.gov/) and the Weather Channel (www.weather.co).
