Winners Announced in Hispanic Heritage Contest!

Student Showcase

The LCD/ESOL Department and the all-campus CATCH Committee are sponsoring a rap/chant contest with the winners receiving a mystery prize. Classes are invited to research specific Native American nation or historic site from anywhere in the Western Hemisphere and create a chant based on what they learned. Chants for grades 1 through 8 must be between 1 and 4 minutes long and should involve actions. Early Childhood chants may be shorter and focus on rhythm, actions, and patterns, rather than words. Students can create an artifact to complement their chants. Chants will be presented at a campus assembly between November 27th and December 4th.

November is Native American Month at CAPCS!

The colorful quilts portrayed significant places and events in Latino history, ranging from the history of the Mariachis, efforts to conserve the Sierra Madre, the meaning behind Peruvian capes, Carnival, coral reef endangerment due to global warming, the Crate of Doom, the plight of immigrant workers, the benefits of the Panama Canal, rain forest conservation efforts, indigenous attire and other areas of interest. The project combined creativity with research and standards-based learning. It also made the hallways a fun place to walk. All participants did an excellent job and should be congratulated for their hard work and dedication.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF THE WINNERS!
